I have experienced the same problem. First noticed the problem with the smell of melted plastic and then saw that the plastic housing had started to fall out of its housing. Not sure why they designed a system with lights that are so hot. I am a little disappointed as the LG dishwasher also stopped working last week, again it was 3 years old.

This is a dud and no longer sold. I have a 2 1/2 year old LG LFC25760 and the light unit melted. It ruined all food on the top shelf which was warm to the touch. The fridge smelled like melted plastic because the wire casing melted, the plastic screw holders melted and the light bulb casings were burned brown. I'm glad we came home when we did because this could have caused a fire. LG knows it is a problem but have never recalled the unit. Also the ice machine has never worked right and the light bulb in the freezer goes on and off randomly.
