Reviewed by Sharon on 01-26-2008 We are on our second FTX25. We returned our first one to our place of purchase and got the exact same coffee pot. We thought maybe it was a one time thing. NO...We are having the same problems. After 6 weeks, we pour 8-10 the beeper beeps right away like it is done and then only brews 2 cups. You wait for the other 6-8 cups of water. It takes well over 20 minutes to get the remaining coffee. Don't buy this unit. Rating: ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Holly Jo on 01-22-2008 I was a lucky person who found a perfect red FTX25-1 at an American Legion YARD SALE for $2.00, Woo Hoo! I love it and its worked like a dream for about 6 months now.It has a cool night like clock, which I didn't expect, and brews us fine strong coffee. We also like the other features with our mountain water. Alas my husband just cracked the pot on a mug in the strainer and there is NO RED replacement to be found. That is my only complaint. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Kathy and Jeff on 01-19-2008 Would have liked my FTX20 to have lasted a little longer. Maybe they fixed the electronic problem with this newer model. Our FTX20's lights started flashing while brewing, making a startling noise as to bring our attention to it. Then it stopped altogether. Jeff wanted to hit it to start it up again, but he is old school. I unplugged it for a few minutes. It began brewing again. This happens often. And the feature for presetting the pot the night before for a morning brew, only worked a few times. Everything else about the pot is great. I paid way too much for it to be messing up this early in the game. I'll keep it for a while only because its not on our list of buys this year. Rating: ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Brett on 12-28-2007 I thought the coffee maker looked stylish and was a fairly nice looking setup. It had the features that I was looking for as well. After getting this thing home we realized that where the water goes in was one of the first drawbacks to this machine. After 5 months with this machine, the front clock/timer went out, which made the clock and the auto program usless. I have now had the machine a total of 10 months and will have to go out and buy a new one today because the unit sounds like it is on the end of the pot even when it starts brewing. I have cleaned it several times and that does not help. I have contacted MR Coffee on every breakdown and as of yet have had no satisfaction from them either. I would recommend not buying this unit or any other from Mr. Coffee Rating: ![]() Reviewed by Dave on 11-30-2007 The first 18 months.. or so that I had this coffee maker everything was fine. Over the weekend when I was making coffee something odd started happening. I poured six cups of water in it, started to brew the coffee, and started to walk from the kitchen. I turned to look at the coffee maker, because it was making more noise than normal. The first 1½ to two cups seeemed to be fine, but then it took forever to complete the brew cycle. Nearly 20 minutes. I thought maybe it needed cleaned, so I ran it through a clean cycle with vinegar to no avail. It still does the same thing. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Isoruku on 07-17-2007 Brews good coffee, but this unit is rusting badly. Am waiting to see if Sunbeam replaces it. Rating: ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Joe on 07-16-2007 I`e had mine now for 3 years, without a problem. I have never spilled coffee out of the caraffe, and no problems at all. Some reviews that I read before I bought it, almost scared me off, like the fact that it spills every where, the clock breaks, that you have to reset the dleay brew clock every night(not true), and that when making a full pot, it makes only 11 cups( duh! every coffee maker does that, the grounds retain water, and some slight evaporation occures when brewing. Have you people never used a coffee maker before?). This coffee maker is still going, and woth the $50 I paid for it 3 years ago. If anyone complains about this model, either they got a lemon, or are just idiots who don`t know how to use a coffee maker! Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by FTX26 should be recalled on 03-23-2007 Three (3) Mr. Coffee FTX 26, all rust at the seam after 16 months, this model is a reject, should be recalled. Mr Coffee knew of this problem in 2005, Do not buy... Rating: ![]() Reviewed by TechWiz4Biz on 06-21-2005 What a GREAT Coffee-Maker... an asset to our mornings and our home! When our five-year-old Black&Decker Smart-Brew recently gave out (began routinely unloading coffee down the sides of its housing instead of into its carafe), Baby - that's my wife - and I began researching our options for a replacement under $60, online and in stores. This Mr.Coffee, Model FTX25, wowed us with its retro-industrial look. Target had it for $55, and when we saw it at Sears for $49, Baby said 'let's get it'... we didn't mind not having the 'permanent' filter, since we like the superior performance of unbleached paper filters anyway. Still, having read all the bad customer reviews, Baby also said 'we'll keep the receipt, just in case'... Well, it's been four or five days, and what a charmer this FTX25 is being! We passed over the version with the snazzy red housing (pretty, but too loud for our monochrome decor), and also skipped the one with a cool thermal carafe (too much heft for Baby's hands), settling on the version with a glass carafe and a black/chrome styling. It now sits in the pass-through which links our Kitchen and Den, like a noble sentinel. But of course, looks aren't all... DOES THIS THING BREW COFFEE? Well, yes. And HOW! With all the reports of pouring disasters when filling the reservoir, when filling coffee-cups - just GLANCING at the dang thing, to hear some folk tell it, our first use of this coffee-maker was filled with anxiety. But it worked flawlessly. And, with the same quota of Seattle's Best French Roast that we would have used in our old SmartBrew, it gave us three big mugs which we had to dilute by half, it was so strong (but, oooh, such great flavor!)... We now know how to gage the quantum of grounds required to yield our desired quota of brew, and there hasn't been a problem pouring - not in five or six tries. Those folks who spill water or coffee or what-all when filling the reservoir or when filling cups from this coffee-maker just need to STOP the vehicle, get BACK into the house, and PUT DOWN those car keys during all pouring operations... THAT'S how you avoid spills. It says right there in the manual that this appliance is not for outdoors use, so what are these multitasking bozos doing DRIVING while preparing or dispensing coffee? You shouldn't drive under the influence, anyway. Jesting aside, this is a winning coffee-maker. And that retro-industrial styling its got wouldn't be worth two coffee-beans if the coffee-pot didn't function - make a good pot of joe - but it SO does! We've used the Delay-Brew feature, natch. We love that little green faux-analog clock; setting it is a breeze. And the 'age-timer' which shows the elapsed time since brewing began (up to 120 minutes, when the pot automatically turns off) is nifty. Today we are trying the 'strong-brew' setting with less grounds than usual, and our trust in this fine machine is now such that we anticipate only pleasant surprises. So, why a four-star 'excellent' rating and not a five-star 'outstanding' one? That's just us, being nit-picky... f-rinstance, the Temp-Knob, which sets how hot the warming plate beneath the carafe stays, is a tad jiggly, and if we think REALLY hard, Baby and I will come up with a feature or two that could stand improvement on this model... we've gotta leave room for those Mr.Coffee designers to earn that 'outstanding' rating and wow us further! But they don't have a whole lotta room, they're THIS close to perfection already! Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Jim on 12-12-2004 This is one GREAT machine for the money folks. I highly recommend it, it's easy to use, efficient, and looks good too. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Bill Miner on 11-26-2004 Worst coffee maker I have ever purchased. The coffee goes all over my counter top instead into the coffee pot. Poor design!!! Rating: ![]() Reviewed by John in Missouri on 11-02-2004 For the most part, all the complaints I have seen, I have no problem with. I was worried about the pouring part after reading the other comments, the spout is very small so I assumed the worst. To my suprise, for me, this pours perfect. It doesn't even leave a dribble down the front when you're done. I have no idea what the one ol boy was complaining about on the delay brew... Yes you have to punch the button that tells it to delay brew, but that's it! I got the impression he said you had to reprogram the time each night and that's not true... You might have to pour the water into the coffee pot a tad slower than in one that is completely open, but... so what? It really doesn't take that long. One guy said you had to use bigger 12 cup filters. I'm using the standard "cheap" 8-12 cup ones and am having no problems on full pots. By the way, I bought my from Sears and unfortunately it didn't come with the reusable brass looking filter. I would have liked to have tried it... The thing I really, really like about this coffee maker is: of the pots of coffee I have made so far, not one single drop of coffee, water, steam condensation or whatever has dripped down on to the burner. Somebody really used their head when they designed this one. Even when you pull the filter basket, nothing, it's even dry underneath it. That's why I had to trash my last coffee maker, the guts underneath the burner plate just totally rusted out. I couldn't move it without rust crumbling out of it. (It was a Mr. Coffee maker too) I think it was from all the drips from the basket and condensation that dripped onto the burner and I guess down along the sides of it. I have had no problem with not all of the water brewing through either one person complained about. For the money, you're not going to find a better looking coffee maker. It looks sharp. Seems to work great for me. I have one reason that I have rated it a 4 rather than a 5. For whatever reason (don't understand it) It does appear to take a little more coffee grounds to make coffee the way you like it. My first attempt, I used the same amount as I always do and brewed it on regular. (Way to weak) The next time I used the brew strong setting and that helped some. The only way I could get it to make coffee as I like it was to add more grounds, which means it may cost just a tad more to use this coffee machine. I'd still buy it. The benefits far out weigh it. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Gary on 09-08-2004 I have had this coffee maker for 2 weeks now. I had to experiment a little with it to make a cup of coffee exactly how I like it, but after a couple tries I got my idea of the perfect cup of coffee. Three slightly rounded scoops of French Roast, water to 12 cup mark and brew strength set to "strong". The controls are very easy to use and unlike others, I have had no problems with dribbling coffee when I pour. I looked around and found one that included the gold permanent filter basket. Looks great and has good tasting coffee ready when I get up in the morning, what else could you want. All in all, a great buy. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Steve on 09-07-2004 Wish I had read reviews before purchasing this coffee maker. I bought this from Target on August 7, 2004. Have used it only 4 times. Yesterday it quit brewing coffee. Filled machine with 8 cups of water, it brewed 1 cup of coffee before beeping "brewing complete", then it shut off. I tried twice again. Today it brewed 4 cups out of 10 before shutting off. Instructions say it beeps "3 times" to signal brew complete. This maker beeps 5 times. Does that signal "return for refund?" I miss my electric perculator. Rating: ![]() Reviewed by Doug on 08-31-2004 I just bought this coffee maker at Target today and may return it. The coffee tastes fine, but the main reason I bought it was that it was programmable... I had an older Mr. Coffee machine with a digital timer that seemed to work 50% of the time. Unfortunately, after getting this coffee maker home and setting it up, I read in the instructions that the "Brew Delay" function (was there a problem with just calling it a Timer?) has to be re-programmed every night before I go to bed for "safety reasons." This is a pain and seems unnecessary. In addition, pouring water into the resorvoir is a major hassle; it's blocked! There are two small holes on the side, and unless you pour the water into it VERY slowly, it spills all over the countertop. The design is great and very attractive. I don't understand why it's so difficult to make a coffee maker that can be programmed without a problem, and has a carafe that pours into a cup rather than down its sides, though. Rating: ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Ken on 08-16-2004 Just bought a new Mr. Coffee FTX25. Expecting the worst after reading the reviews, we poured the first cup over the sink. No problems here on pouring. Looks great, coffee taste great, and pours just like it should. Folks, put the cup under the spout when you pour! Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Matthew on 08-14-2004 This coffee maker looks great and makes an excellent brew. It's best features: 1. It is easy to use and easy to see how much water you are adding to the resevoir. 2. It makes consistently good coffee. 3. It looks great. 4. It brews quickly. 5. I love the adjustable hotplate temp. control. It has a few flaws that make this not a "5 star" review. They are: 1. You must pour the coffee carefully and slowly or the carafe will dribble onto your countertop. This is because the lid is designed to fit loosely. 2. If you use paper filters, you must use the larger sized filters (12 cup size) rather than the standard size (8-12 cup size), or the grounds will overflow as it brews. This is only a problem when brewing more than 8 cups. The filter basket is plenty large enough; the issue is with the filter size. 3. It is hard to completely dry the coffee carafe; water tends to get stuck inside the lower rim and not come out. 4. Be careful if making a second pot quickly after the first. Let it cool first or water may spritz at you from the shower-head-spigot. I've used many coffee makers, and for me, the above advantages by far outweigh the disadvantages, especially when compared with what is currently on the market. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by bdkfla on 07-25-2004 Design is very nice, but functionally it fails miserably! My wife curses everytime she pours a cup as half of it winds up on the countertop. Save your money and buy a less expensive one that actually works!!! Rating: ![]() Reviewed by Christopher on 07-24-2004 Good coffee maker. No major issues. Coffee tasted very good. Easy to use. Nice look. Easier to clean than most. Hot water does spit out of the shower head when you lift top lid after it's done making cofee but you learn to back off a little and it's fine. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Steve on 07-14-2004 Design is TERRIBLE. Looks good but terrible to use. I used it about 10 times and had different tasting coffee each time. You must poor very slowly or it dribbles and spills down the pot. You cannot make 2 pots 1 after another without the top flap burping and spitting hot water on you when you open it. It leaves water in the chamber between cycles. A mans hand won't fit into the pot to clean it. Stainless steel has fingerprints on it that now won't come off. IT'S TERRIBLE!!!!! Rating: ![]() Reviewed by Mike on 06-24-2004 The only positive aspects of this machine are it's looks. In function, it fails completely. The design is ridiculous - it is impossible to use without spilling water or coffee everywhere. Rating: ![]()
