Reviewed by Mr. Wet Carpet on 07-29-2007 Beware of paying too much for this Danby unit. While it has a sleek design and is comparatively quieter than a lot of portable AC units, it is riddled with issues. The first is the vent hose system, which requires ALOT of modifications for ANY configuration. Most importantly, the hose lining is faulty, and leaks hot air like crazy. I can't tell you how much Duct Tape I have gone through since purchasing this machine. Second, the BTU equivalent production of this machine is about the same as a 5,000 BTU window unit. Third, the water tanks do not fill uniformly, or according to spec. Often times, depending on the weather, only the tiny internal tank will fill (meaning it fills very often, sometimes twice during the night). Finally, the machine has started leaking, as the drainage systems appears to have failed. The jury is out on how much this will cost to fix. Did I mention that the unit is only 1 year old??? Having said all of this, I got an excellent deal on the unit at Future Shop (Canadian Best Buy Co.), paying only 349 bucks CDN. (couldn't find any deals in the US or Canada to match this). The unit currently retails for nearly 450 quid....far too much in my opinion. However, should you be able to get a deal on this, and you are enduring unbearable conditions in a location that does not support a window/through the wall unit, I would still recommend this or a similar unit. Just manage your expectations, and remember that ALL portable AC units are much more fussy and high-maintenance than other forms. Cheers, Aaron (Ottawa, CDA) Rating:
