Reviewed by Louis on 12-09-2004 Happy 20th anniversary to me! No need to save your money and wait until next year!! Man O man O man did I find the deal. I have been researching for a year. Could not believe what I found at our Sam's in Pensacola, FL.
Sound is amazing! Picture with REGULAR ANALOG COAX CABLE, is amazing. I could not believe it! It's a 30 inch High Definition LCD TV (Audiovox model FPE3000). I bought it Dec 1 for our 20th anniversary. I could not believe the price...$1299.00. Yes, I know. I was wondering how Sam's could sell something for $800 less than the next cheapest store on the Internet.
The Internet research showed the same TV anywhere from $2100 to almost $3000. So, just in case I paid $198.00 for an ADDITIONAL 3 years of service and warranty through Sam's Club. It already had a year warranty out of the box, so now I have 4 years. At Best Buy they have coax hooked up to all of the big TVs so you can see how bad the signal is compared to the DirectTV signal, so they can sell you DirectTV at Best Buy while you are there. It turns out the crappy coax signal is because of all of the splitters they use to run cable to about 100 different TVs in the store. I got it home, hooked it up and BAM! What a picture! Our Sam's only received 6 of the TVs, and the sign said "one time buy", so I hope your local Sam's Club has some in so you can see what a deal it is. And yes, the resolution is 1280 x 768, which is why the picture is so great. One thing though, I hooked up my progressive scan DVD player through each of the 2 component inputs, and there is a test button during the setup to test them, but only the HDTV component input received the progressive scan signal. Hmmm... See the details on this fabulous LCD TV at http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Audiovox_FPE3000

Reviewed by Kevin on 12-05-2004 I purchased this LCD TV at Sams Club for $1299.00 + Tax. This was a lower price than anywhere I could find on the Internet. For this price point, this TV can NOT be beat. We all know Audiovox is not exactly Sony as a brand name, but we also know that Audiovox certainly does not manufacture LCD panel screens either. I don't know who this screen is made by, but it's picture is simply excellent. I have noticed no issues with bluring due to response time, it's extremely crisp and the colors amazingly vivid. It did need some adjustment out of the box to tone down the picture and get the contrast ratio looking right, but once tweaked it is fantastic. I have hooked up to it a set top box HDTV tuner and the picture is simply stunning. I've also connected a PC and ran 1280X768 res and it looked as sharp as my 20" dell Panel I have on my PC. The speakers that come with it are fine for TV watching and handled boosting the bass up with no problem. Obviously the speakers are removable and in an HT environment you wouldn't use them anyway.
The on screen menus are fine for all the adjusting that you need to do for this set. Brightness, contrast, color temp... audio settings, onscreen position, etc. The tuner built in is a non-HD tuner, just regular NTSC.... and tunes quite well with fast channel changes. We use a Tivo on the set, and because of the tight resolution you can really see the TiVo artifacts much more easily. At about 5+ feet away, regular SD tv looks just fine.
All in all, I could not be happier with this unit. I do wish it had a black border around the screen to frame it, but the aluminum does look nice and this thing is truly a quality built product. The ONLY truly negative thing I could say about it is that while it does provide two Y/Pb/Pr component inputs, only one set can accept a Progressive signal... so having an HDTV AND a progressive scan DVD player connected is impossible.
Highly recommended unit. Rating:
