Reviewed by oldfashnd on 11-20-2009 I've had this system for 6 years now, bought it back in 03 and I have had the humming issue, but never cared to get it taken care of. It still works great, there is occasional humming every now and then, but not enough to really bother me. I'd say it would probably have to die completely before I get another one. I'll stick with the RCA till it gives. Rating:
Reviewed by TigerTou on 09/01/2009 RT2600 worked moderately well (some ports not working, even when new). Then, it simply faded away and now displays OVERLOAD. Model was recalled by Tompson and US Govt for overheating and actually melting plastic faceplate, but RCA will not repair or replace it. Too bad. RCA used to produce high quality products. Then along came the spider and poor design engineers. Even when it worked, ran so hot that parts could not be touched. Rating:
Reviewed by fire400 on 09-30-2008 RCA could have done better with cooling. if you're a tech geek, service the fans yourself and cutomize the cooling. it's horrible, but this system is real if you're a know-how. can handle two sony ProBend Xplod competition bandpass subs if 'subw' settings are at: -10 - +3, know that +5 is pushing it with the volume on high. dual subs comin' out of the same channel loads up intense trance parties. lots of video and audio connections. optional: -"large front speakers" setting available on 5.1 setup. good for switch out of stock speakers -settings lets you adjust speakers, you can push them to +10 max on custom control settings and explode a gymnasium with pre-adjusted tweaks from laptop/DJ system. best sound from optical input. using this with Audigy 2 ZS notebook card. this thing can do a lot if you're flexible with sound technology, otherwise steer clear from this system, not worth the head aches for first time users. Reviewed by Miska7 on 01-26-2005 Overall this is a good system. I have had mine for a couple years, 6 months after buying it they had a re-call for an over heating problem (I also had a nosiy fan). Since I had it fixed I have had no problems and no more noise. Rating:
Reviewed by Music Man on 01-21-2005 I was given the RT2600 as a Christmas gift. Although I appreciate the gift giving, the main unit makes alot of noise. The sound appears to be the cooling fan(s), in the form of humming and clicking. After numerous google searches I would generalize this as a somewhat uncommon side effect. The noise is quite unbearable, unless you plan to have the sound levels quite high. I do like the machines capabilities, however do not recommend purchasing a sound device which generates unwanted sounds. Rating:
Reviewed by Frank on 06-11-2004 Just bought this RCA RT2600 unit at Circuit City for $105 ($150 - %10 off - $30 rebate). Brought it home, hooked it, and after five minutes received an "overload" message on front panel. Unit is toast after five minutes. Nice Rating:
