Reviewed by Telly on 03-26-2006 I bought this because i didnt want to spend alot and to my surprise.. not a bad unit. I wasn't expecting much for the price, but it did sound good with my $129 pioneer dvd player. I recently bought another DVD player, the Pioneer Elite dvd-09 and connected the optical output to the HT400 definely not expecting much difference, thinking maybe the panny would choke off any improvement that the elite had to offer. As soon as the movie started I noticed too much bass,so moved turned down the sub volume and WOW! the bass was not so boomy but still rattled the pictures on my walls. The highs were smooth and crystal clear. Excellent dynamics. My girlfriend started looking around the room wondering where the sound was coming from. Thats when I realized this panasonic can handle some serious front end equipment. I went from a 52" sceen to a 106" home theater projector with- out having to replace the Panasonic surround system. So if your looking for good value and great sound I highly recommend the Panasonic SC HT-400. Rating:
