I had one and the sound didn't work. Returned it and the new one worked for about 2 years or a bit longer. And, too, like the rest of you all...it was the sound. It won't work through my DVR anymore but hooked up to the TV to watch movies the sound is fine. But I'd like to watch regular cable w/ it but it doesn't work. I bought a new system and it's a Samsung. Before I hooked the new one up I was going to see if I can get it to work, but now after reading this, I'll just keep the new system...it's 1,000 watts anyway! This product should be taken off the market for sure!

this system is all about knowing how to work it! for me the sound resets itsself once and awhile which case all you have to do is make sure your setting is still on analog and not optical or coaxial whatever its called. sometimes it switches itself for some reason but if you go into audio section and turn all of your speakers are on 10, and distance is at 30 its sounds amazing and as good as anything you will pay 100s for bottom line this system has been perfect in every way and for the price i would say buy one!! just make sure if your audio stops working that you make sure your av inputs are set at analog and the sound comes back and every so often you might have to turn your speakers back up you cannot beat the price for this awesome system and i have had mine for about 2 years now and never an issue!!

Bought the ks3102 11-26-04. Worked great up until a few nights ago. I've got my xbox plugged into into the av inputs, video still works, but sound is out. Swapped to the other av input set and get the same thing...video but no sound. Plugged my xbox directly to the tv and the video and sound work. Will try to reset it, but won't get my hopes up. The dvd, reciever functions and the speakers still all work. I guess I got my moneys worth for it lasting 18 months without any issues, though I won't buy another one nor will I contact customer service based on everyone else's experiences.

Ok, well after reading everyone else's reviews I have come to the same conclusion. initially it was an excellent buy, supurb sound at an excellent cost. then what happened? I don't know. After three months (coincidentally right after the warranty runs out) the system went bunk. Neither of the AV inputs work anymore audio or visually. it still plays DVDs but the sound output is so low that even when cranked to full volume the movies are hard to follow. when you try to disconnect the speakers and run the audio through your TV instead background noise remains amplified while the voices remain at the low volume. Tried contacting customer service. They want me to spend $65 to send it to them and then pay $110 for a new system. I mean i only bought it for 150 are they crazy??? I would not advise this product to anyone and have no intention of purchasing a koss product again. Next time i hope the people at Best Buy will tell me of the poor performance instead of pushing me on the "500 watts special for only 150 bucks."

It was cheap...I got it...I loved it. Worked perfectly for a year. Then the subwoofer stopped working. I tried turning it off, unplugigng everything, recutting the wire...nothing worked. I did I search for "KS3102" and found this site. Thanks to DD Ramone and April Cook, I found out the secret... 1. Make sure there is no disc inside. 2. Turn the unit off. 3. Unplug the main Power chord of the DVD player from the power outlet. Wait for 20 seconds and replug the power chord back to power outlet. 4. Turn the unit back on. Press the DVD button on the remote to take the unit to the DVD mode. 5. Now enter the digits "7" , "6", "4", "1", "9" using the remote control. - The VFD will be displaying " Goodbye" & power off. - Press the "Power" button again. The sequence worked like a charm!!! THANK YOU!!! Part of me thinks this makes it a junk system, another part of me thinks it's an easy enough fix for a moderate theater system.

18 months use (low intensity) and this still works great for me, so don't share other people's gripes. I do have it set up to keep air running around it as it clearly generates a lot of heat. I wonder how many failed uniots were crammed into a tight space? Anyway, I added a pair of budget bookshelf speakers to use as the front pair, so that I could get good stereo, as I use this 50% time for just audio - and for the money, I'd say the sound quality and power is hard to beat - and the DVD works fine for me, too.

I got a little nervous when reading some of the other reviews of this system. But, we got this with a coupon from the store we purchased our HDTV through. That being said, we hooked it up. That was rather easy. The only problem was our living room is large and we needed to buy extra speaker wire. It works great, the 5.1 surround sound is awesome!!I say it's worth the price. The only thing that sucked about it was the FM tuner. We couldn't get a station in if our life depended on it. But then again, we live in a mountain!! I say, if your looking for a system to get, the KS3102 is well worth it!!

The DVD player did at one time stop working and I found that the power board had cold solder at the connectors. This fix did not correct the DVD reading problem but it powers!

Watching a DVD movie with headphones plugged:Could only hear background noises and music could not hear dialogues. I up the volume to the max and could hear a faint dialogue. Tried 3 different headphones and adaptors with the same result. Went back to Best Buy to exchanged. Same result. Tech Support instructed me to do a 76419 re-set, but did not work. Told me to exchange bec I had a defective system. OK so I thought, maybe it was bad luck I got 2 in a row. I exchanged a third one and STILL THE SAME!!!!!!!!!!@#$&% Another problem on the 1st & 2nd system (did not bother after that) there was no video display only audio while playing the VCR. Tech Support's advice: unplug the S-video connection on the BACK of system and use an RCA plug to connect to the TV when using the VCR, then switch back to the S -video when watching a DVD??!!!.

If you are considering a purchase of this unit I would suggest you pass, it is not good quality even for the price. When it works it's ok, its sounds like it has an integral problem, read other posts. *** SOUND ISSUE *** An earlier posting by DD Ramone outlines a protocol for resetting the unit. We experienced the same problem, 5 months out of the box the AV soundstopped working. Tried the steps outlined and lo-and-behold it worked! We were shocked. If you are having problems with the sound on equipment hooked up to your player try the reset. (turn off, unplug, wait, replug, turn on, set to DVD and type in the following numbers on the remote "7, 6, 4, 1, 9". if sucessful it will turn off.. turn back on and wait, the sound came back on for us. Thanks a ton DD Ramone- hope it worked for you!

You do get what you pay for. But, I have a huge system with 7.1 surround sound in my media room, but I wanted something small and inexpensive for my family room. So, The KS3102 has perfect for that. I am not going to expect the performance out of it like I would my more expensive system. But the KS 3102 sounds good for what you get. I read all the other reviews and you can take what you read here with a grain of salt. But it seems so strange so many had the same problem with the sound quiting on them. I do know that this unit must have plenty of ventalation so that it will not over heat. That is detramental to any electronic equipment.

Got this for Xmas and set it up 12/26. Used for rest of day-sounded great. Next evening, turned it on and after 2 minutes, heard a POP, then nothing but a buzzing sound (all channels, all speakers). Checked connections 2 x, then called customer service (in name only) 3 times. First 2 guys told me to unplug power, then disconnect all speaker wires, wait 5 min, reconnect. (2nd guy told me to reset also). No luck. 3rd guy told me the same, but then ran me through the set up menu to at least try that. Nothing. He told me to return it. The first 2 guys were awful-were in a big rush to get me off the phone. After reading these reviews, sounds like i am lucky it died when it did, within the warranty period. Seemed like a lot of product for the money.....you do get what you pay for. Anyone have any other brand suggestions?

This product is great, excellent output, and quality for the price. And the sound output doesn't quit after 5 months like some people say. For some reason the settings reset. So you have to go tweak the input and speaker settings a little bit and you're back in business. But other than that the only flaw in the system is you may have to buy longer wire for the satillite speakers.

I have purchased various Koss electronic components over the past 30 years, and I have always been happy with my choices. As a matter of fact, I still have my 1974 vintage (heavy!) Koss earphones and have had no problems with them! I needed a surround sound system, so I bought the "bargain" KS3102 system earlier this year; five months later the sound quits cold. I mean, ZERO output. Speakers work fine when hooked to another source, but the receiver/amp has ZERO output. THREE MONTH warranty??!! Hmmm... let me guess why... After reading some of the online reviews on this system, I see that I am not anywhere near being alone. Has anyone heard of a recall on this system from the good ol' folks at Koss?? Maybe the the "bottom line" mentality got to them... if so, they have snookered the last dollar they will get from me!

Includes exterior woofer option, component and coaxil outputs and can run practically everything you can plug into it. Its ability to view jpegs is superior and this is one of the first systems that I have seen that offers mp3 playback capability, it reads wav as well.
