The unit works fine, does what it's supposed to do, but it is a real pain in the ass to operate. There are almost no controls on the unit itself, so you have to do everything with the remote. And the buttons on the remote are tiny, you can't read the labels except in a strong light, and you need a degree in computer science to work your way through all the options and "program" the damn thing, just to listen to music or watch a DVD. Definitely not worth all the hassle. I'd be willing to pay more for a few knobs and switches.

But put in my Garage for just ausio only. Then about a month ago. It just quit all together. Took off the outer shell. Found that the Circuit Board on the left side of the unit was fried. It is the Board that the power coard pluggs into. This item is not woth the time and or money.

I have run into a couple of different difficulties with the KOSS KS2503. The first and most random seems to be the occasional muting of sound while watching a DVD. I just have to adjust the volume in either direction to bring the sound back, but it is annoying. The second and more problematic was that the unit would not accept audio input from an outside source through the RCA. I check cables, the outside units, and the speakers, all of which functioned. Through this board I found out that using the reset code of 76419 in the DVD setting worked. The unit will shut itself down and upon restarting it, I got sound back from the audio inputs. So, while I've owned my unit for about a year and a half without too many problems, I am unimpressed. When the unit functions, it does so fairly well. The last problem is the incredibly slow response time for any function, especially the DVD. You basically have to allow the unit to complete whatever function it is in the process of before selecting something else.

hello everyone... i gave my review on the ks2503 on 12-13-05. i'm now going to update that review on this product - i'd like to start by saying that i still feel the same, IT IS GARBAGE... BUT, i have actually found a way to make it usable again. i had lost all functions and had no sound and everything else was acting pretty strange on the unit. if you can turn a screw-driver, then you just might have the same luck i did (only do this if your warranty is up and you've tried everything else) - with the power on UNPLUG the unit - take out all the screws that hold the shell on and remove it (maybe a good idea to carefully clean out any dust inside with air duster and/or a vacuum) then locate the ribbon of wires that go from the display panel to the circuit board, there should be two ribbons next to each other - the one you want is the smaller of the two. make sure it is the one going to the display, and firmly pull it straight out of the terminal on the board taking note of how you removed it. leave it disconnected for about 1min. then re-insert the ribbon exactly how it was removed - be sure that it is pushed all the way back in, and evenly. then put the shell back on and try your luck. i don't know if by unplugging that ribbon it resets some corrupt circuitry in the display part of the unit or what, but this is what i did and now the p.o.s. works just like it was brand spankin new. oh yeah, and if you want a good player buy a philips dvp642, and use the ks2503 as a reciever (if you get it working again) good luck and i hope this helps

The system ate my dvd. and cd's numerous times had to unscrew it to get them out. Numerous errors and codes. The code to punch in controller does not work. Complained to corportate KOSS and was told i was getting a replacement/NEW one. Returned the first piece of junk and got a second one. Same problem as the first. But it actually lasted for 3 months. Then the new system would not play anything. Could not even listen to the music channels through it. Called KOSS again told them my issue emailed them numerous times. They finally agreed again to send me a NEW unit. It is the KS 2503. I actually wonder if it is NEW???? If this unit does not work I will be complaing to the BBB. They cannot get away with this. Do NOT buy or think about getting a KOSS system period. Even if it cost you .99 off of ebay. They are complete udder garbage. Im sure if we tell BBB about Koss they would have a feild day with them and get our money for buying the units and shipping the junk back to KOss.

I've owned the Koss KS2503 for less than a year now. Purchased at BestBuy, I thought I had found a great deal for about 125.00, but several problems have become stumbling blocks. 1: Occasionally the sound will mute during play of DVDs until volume is adjusted. 2: The video output failed. No success through RCA to TV, RCA to RF Modulator to TV, S-Video to TV, nor Component to TV. All audio works fine with DVDs (except for mute glitch) so I have eliminated disk read errors. Without a digital audio input I have no use for the surround sound when plugging another DVD player's audio through the RCA audio inputs for sound. Summary, pay for the extra warranty on the cheap products or just pay for the good stuff. This is too much hassle!

If this system would allow one to give less than a single star, that is what the Koss KS2503 DVD "home theater and audio entertainment system" deserves (has anyone been truly entertained by what they've encountered with this thing?) Okay, so I bought my brand new unit from a dealer on eBay, and admittedly only paid $66 ($36 for the system, $30 for shipping), definitely a deal, or so it would appear. BUT. When you consider that I am a disabled woman living within severe financial constraints, that's a heck of a lot of hard bidden bucks to spend on something that has proven out to be nothing more than an intricate radio. And if the way my player is working right now indicates, and if the way Koss has responded thus far indicates, it most assuredly appears as if I have bidden my good money "Good-bye. I am a pretty trusting, open-minded person, but I do not like what I see happening here. It appears as if Koss is literally dumping the KS2503 onto an unsuspecting public. All across the country, companies are offering this thing at incredible discounts, some even going so far as to offer it free, as a seemingly wondering dividend for other, larger purchases. The prices that are being offered are so low that they are drawing us in with the delightful knowledge of getting so much for so little- so little, indeed. Caveat emptor was never more appropriately applied than it is with this darn machine. Wasted money is just that, but diminished public goodwill is another thing altogether. Companies will listen, if given a reason, especially one that could openly affect their bottom line. Today I am composing a letter which I will mail, by snail and e-sources, to consumer advocacy lawyers, including, but not limited to, Ralph Nadar. My hopes are, based upon the many letters from disaffected buyers on all the internet review sites like this one, I can get someone interested in opening a class action suit. If YOU are interested in joining in with me on this, please send an email outlining when you purchased your Koss KS2503 (maybe even other Koss systems, though my primary concern is with the KS2503), where you got it, how much you paid, and the troubles you have had, no matter how vast or small. I have set up a special email account at: mizzllat2@hotmail.com . I look forward to hearing from you, though, even in saying that, I probably ought to say that I am sorry to be hearing from you too (::warm > smile::).

UGH! What a POS this thing is... save your money and time. Within a week of buying, it started having problems loading DVDs (any kind, commercial, burnt whatever). By now, it won't read regardless of the constant, escalated fiddling with power on/off, open close tray, unplug/plug, switch from AV to DVD, (yeah, it trains you to jump through all these hoops as it deteriorates in usability). I have upgraded it's firmware, followed the previous poster's factory reset formula (which worked, but no help), and it's still basically a surround SOUND (no DVD) with an AM/FM tuner. Stay (FAR) away from Koss products. Beware 90 warranty AV products.

Select DVD from the remote 7.
