First one we bought had to be returned vbe cause if failed to work after 2 hrs. New unit freezes up every two weeks and only says "hello" We are luck because we can unplug it to get it back to life (so far) I think "they" knew it was s lemon because the price of them suddenly dropped at the stores after xmas of 2006. RCA does not even acknowlege these anymore as their unit. There was a "patch" on the net for this but that disappeared.

I agree with those who say that this DVD recorder is great, but I agree more so with those who say that it's a peice of junk. When it decides 2 work it is great. The problem is it doesn't work just as much or more so than it does. Sometimes it will recognize DVDs that IT recorded & Sometimes it wont. Sometimes it will show the correct time & sometimes it wont. Sometimes it will record according 2 the schedule & sometimes it wont. Then when you call customer service you are on hold forever & finally someone anwswers who seems 2 have less knowledge of how the recorder should work than you do. The last straw was I turned it on today & the screen said "HELLO" then it flashed the time "12:44" 4 2 seconds then the screen began scrolling a series of dots & dashes. Maybe it's Morse code 4 "I'm Dead". But as soon as I find my receipt I will be shipping this piece of junk back 2 the manufacturer!!!

Bought this for use in the classroom...it's not the easiest unit to understand. When I hit eject, I expect a disk to come out soon, not a few minutes later. That's not the real problem, the real problem is that I bought this unit to replace an older sanyo (2 years old) in my classroom that had video output issues. So I set this up, tested it and left a video for my classes while I was out of town coaching...it lasted 2 HOURS before failure. Needless to say I will be returning it Monday.
