Although this machine does not have any of the gold plate features such as progressive scan, a hard drive etc., it is a very good and reliable recorder. The quality of the written dvds are very good. The SP+ speed makes it suitable for the over 2 hour movies. Degradation of quality over the span of speeds is not excessive. The machine is very sensitive to copy protected material of any kind, so you cannot burn rented DVDs nor VHS. I personally use it to transfer home made videos to DVD or you can use it to copy broadcasted material. I give this machine a very high rating.
