Yamaha DVS-5650
Product Rating
The DVS5650 may be called a DVD player, but it does a lot more than play the DVDs you rent at the video store. It not only plays DVD-Video, it also plays CDs and VCDs. You can play back DVD+R/+RW discs and CD-R/RW discs, including those that contain MP3 files. The high performance laser pick-up has independent heads to provide top-quality Video CD, SCD, and DVD performance. The DVS5650 offers terrific audio and video processing. 192 kHz/24-bit compatible audio digital-to-analog conversion assures that the player delivers superior sound performance. Yamaha's high quality, 10-bit, video DAC conversion assures the finest possible video performance. You want to get the best possible picture (and audio) when you're playing your favorite DVDs. The DVS5650 incorporates component video outputs as well as S-video and composite video outputs. On the audio side of things, you get the use of optical and coaxial digital audio outputs for Dolby Digital, DTS, MPEG, and PMC sound. The DVS5650 also features a mixed 2-channel output. Multiple Zoom capability lets you enlarge the image by 1.33x, 2x, or 4x to take a closer look at any scene. The unique screen saver feature dims the screen to 75% when in the pause mode. Resume play allows you to interrupt a movie to go to a feature and then pick up the movie where you left off. It has a 5-disc memory. Child Lock allows parents the option of denying play of any specific DVD or VCD. Control and operation of the DVS5650 is easy with the well designed remote control keypad.

Reviewed by maineguy1979 on 08-23-2004 This unit is, by far, one of the best single-disc DVD players on the
market today. The build quality of Yamaha electronics is second to none.
One of the amazing things about this unit is that it was able to play a
badly scratched DVD that I was unable to play on FOUR other DVD players.
Those units would start to play it and would freeze up or stop completely
when they got to the scratched part of the disc. The Yamaha, however,
played the entire disc without any problems at all. I would highly
recommend this unit to anybody who appreciates quality craftsmanship and
superior reliability. This may be the only DVD player you'll ever need to
buy! Rating:
