The "little brother" to the Pioneer DVD-V7400, the DVD-V5000 looks like it has the potential to outshine its sibling. With additional features such as progressive scan, a slim line design and front panel display, Pioneer has added a number of features that were seriously lacking in the DVD-V7400. The one noticeable, major feature that was removed is the external genlock capability, a feature that most customers would not miss.
Most of the RS232 commands are fully compatible with the DVD-V7400 and with the onscreen display now showing up over a black background, the text is much easier to read. The main reason I did not rank this player any higher is that the default baud speed (19,200) is not even supported by the DVD-V7400, making this unit not 100% compatible with the DVD-V7400.
Another reason is the lack of a track record b?" the DVD-V7400 has had a great reliability history, and hopefully the DVD-V5000 will follow its big brothers footsteps. If this is any indication b?"
I have had the player running in-house for over six (6) weeks without any problems !!
