Reviewed by Doug B on 07-06-2004 This receiver is an excellent value for the dollar. It will deliver clean high power sound to even the most demanding speaker systems. I have been using 600 series B & W loudspeakers, and the Marantz DV6400 universal player. Although the DV6400 does most of the switching for
different souce materials, the receiver switches clean without any audio noise or video artifacts. It should be noted that this receiver will not switch up to component video from other inputs. This should not be a big problem, and I am sure that multi source decks will become more popular over the next few years. The on-screen menu allows for easy setup, and is visually much better then staring at the display on the receiver itself. All aspects of stereo or home theater are accounted for, including bass management. One very nice feature is the NEO 6 music/movie surround mode. I was able to play old CD's in this mode as a full surround, where vocal was at the center channel, sides are instrumental, with fills on rear. Old movies seemed as though they had been scripted with surround soundtracks. Very impressive. There was no sense of forcing a multi channel experience, as was common with the old "quad" stereo equipment. Those who demand high end performance on a budget, will get everything they need in this model, and save alot over the 7400 receiver. Rating:
